The Differences of High School Diplomas in New York City
To graduate high school in New York City, a student is required to have a diploma showing that they have completed the certain requirements to graduate high school. That person would need a minimum of 44 credits of courses. In most high schools in New York, there are two different kinds of diplomas. A Regents Diploma, and an Advanced Regents Diploma. Each types of diploma requires the certain amount of credits in each subject: eight credits in English, eight credits in Social Studies, six credits in Science, six credits in Mathematics, four credits of physical education, one credit of health, and two credits of Visual Art, Music, Dance, and/or Theater. These credits are must required to get either a Regents Diploma or an Advanced Regents Diploma. If you want a Regents Diploma, you need the credits I mentioned earlier, and more. That includes two credits of Language other than English, and seven elective credits. To obtain and Advanced Regents Diploma, you need there same amount of credits for Regents Diploma, but instead of two credits for Language other than English, you'll need six credits of Language other than English, and instead of needing 7 elective credits, you only need three elective credits. All of the information that was provided was credits wise, now we'll talk about the regents.
For a Regents Diploma, you need a passing score on the English regents, passing score for any one of the Common Core Math regents, passing score on the Global History and U.S. History and Government regents, and a passing score on any Science regents. For an Advanced Regents Diploma, you need a passing score on the English regents, passing score on all three of the Common Core Math regents, passing score on the Global History and U.S. History and Government regents, a passing score on any two of the Science regents, and a passing score on a Language Other Than English(LOTE) Exam. If you're in a CTE Academy, and you want to obtain an Advanced Regents Diploma, you only need two credits of Language other than English, and won't be required to take the LOTE Exam, only if you're in a CTE academy.
Achieving a CTE endorsement on my diploma will benefit me because it shows colleges, and jobs that I have experience working with Web Design, and it shows that I put in the extra work that other students who don't have the endorsement didn't do. It shows that I am certified in that area in work, and it can be a way for me to get a job easier in that line of work, just because of that endorsement. Some of the unique benefits of it is that you get six college credits, and can be able to get paid internships, and even part-time jobs.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading my blog, hope you have a good day, and I'll see you next time.
